Our craft & expertise

Crown Pool Services is up to date with current techniques and advanced technology and strives to construct beautiful swimming pools of the highest quality

A swimming pool, also referred to as a swimming bath or paddling pool, is a structure designed to hold water for swimming and other leisure activities. These pools can be built into the ground or constructed above ground, either as standalone structures or as part of larger buildings. In-ground pools are typically made from materials like concrete, natural stone, metal, plastic, or fiberglass, and can be custom-sized or built to standard sizes, with the Olympic-size pool being the largest.

Many facilities such as health clubs, fitness centres, private clubs, public institutions, hotels, educational institutions like schools and universities have pools primarily for exercise or recreation. Hot tubs and spas filled with hot water are used for relaxation or hydrotherapy and are common in homes, hotels, clubs, and massage parlours. Specialized swimming pools are also used for diving, other water sports, lifeguard training, and astronaut training.

There are three main types of in-ground pools: concrete, vinyl-lined, and fiberglass. Concrete pools are custom-built and can be shaped to any size or form. They are often referred to as Gunite or Shotcrete pools because concrete is shot from a gun onto steel-reinforced walls. Once the concrete cures, it’s either plastered smooth, painted, finished with a textured aggregate surface or tiled. A smaller percentage of concrete pools are formed and poured similarly to a house foundation; this technique is often used for pools built into hillsides.

Fiberglass pools are factory-moulded into one large bowl-shaped piece and placed into the excavated hole by a crane. This allows for quicker installation than other pool types - in some cases as little as three days. Fiberglass pools have a super smooth gel coat finish that’s durable and stain resistant. Unlike concrete, fiberglass pools are non-porous, so they tend to use fewer chemicals and harbour less algae.

However, fiberglass pools come in fewer sizes and shapes than concrete or vinyl pools. The large moulded pools must be transported by truck which often requires long circuitous delivery routes due to individual state regulations on the transportation of oversized loads.

The process of maintaining healthy conditions in swimming pools, hot tubs, plunge pools, and similar recreational water venues is known as swimming pool sanitation. This is crucial for preserving the water’s visual clarity and preventing the spread of infectious waterborne diseases.

Sanitation methods encompass a water filter to eliminate pollutants, disinfection to eradicate infectious microorganisms, swimmer hygiene to reduce the introduction of contaminants into the pool water, and regular testing of pool water, including chlorine and pH levels.

Contaminants in swimming pools come from environmental sources and swimmers. Environmental contaminants, which primarily affect outdoor swimming pools, include windblown dirt and debris, incoming water from unsanitary sources, rain carrying microscopic algae spores, and bird droppings that may carry disease-causing viruses.

A well-maintained and properly functioning pool filtration and re-circulation system is the first line of defence against contaminants that can be filtered. Quick removal of filterable contaminants lessens the burden on the disinfection system, thereby limiting chloramine formation, restricting the formation of disinfection by-products, and enhancing sanitation effectiveness. To kill pathogens and help prevent recreational water illnesses, pool operators must maintain proper levels of chlorine or another sanitizer.

In the fields of landscape architecture and garden design, a water feature refers to one or more elements such as fountains, pools, ponds, cascades, waterfalls, and streams.

Contemporary water features are usually self-contained, which means they don’t need an external water source; instead, water is recycled from a pond or a concealed reservoir, also known as a sump. The sump can be housed within the water feature itself or buried underground for outdoor features.

Water features can be located indoors or outdoors and can vary greatly in size, from a small desktop water fountain to a large indoor waterfall that spans an entire wall in a sizable commercial building. They can be constructed from various materials including stone, granite, stainless steel, resin, iron, and glass. Most water features are electronically controlled, with controls ranging from simple timers to complex computerized systems for synchronizing music with water and light displays.

Water features often provide additional advantages to homeowners such as enhancing curb appeal, increasing home value, reducing noise pollution (as the sound of water drowns out external noise), increasing humidity in arid regions, and improving air quality.
